History
Since ancient times, the state has been home to the Cherokee, Pamlico, Roanoke, Catoba, and Tuscarora Indian tribes. In the second half of the XVI century the English courtier Sir Walter Raleigh (Raleigh) received from Queen Elizabeth I the rights to establish a colony in North America. Thus, two English colonies appeared on the territory of modern North Carolina. But they did not last long. New settlements settled here at the end of the XVII century, forming the province of Carolina. It received its name in honor of the King of England and Scotland Charles I.
In the first half of the XVIII century the province of North Carolina with the status of a royal colony was formed. Later it joined the states that demanded independence from Great Britain.
By the beginning of the American Civil War, North Carolina was a slaveholding state. During the war, it sided with the South (Confederacy), whose army was defeated.
The period of prosperity of the state fell on the XX century. Textile and chemical industry, science and the latest technologies, tobacco cultivation and production were actively developed here.
North Carolina is famous for its beautiful beaches, mountain scenery and developed infrastructure.
